Because of its extensive history and breathtaking scenery, the Southern Shenandoah Valley offers many worthy attractions. The mountains and valleys ring with music from bluegrass festivals. History is documented and celebrated here in so many ways on your Virginia vacation travels.
Lexington is the jewel in our crown, with its historic brick sidewalks, Virginia Military Institute, and Washington and Lee University, and the final resting-places of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
Buena Vista is home to Southern Virginia University and numerous bluegrass festivals in Glen Maury Park.
At the northern border of our region, you’ll find the small city of Staunton, with the Frontier Culture and Woodrow Wilson Museums, as well as the American Shakespeare Center.
The star city of Roanoke sits at our southern border, offering the O. Winston Link Museum as well as a vibrant downtown, complete with farmers’ market.
